Public engagement for the JLUS consisted of public meetings, a virtual public open house, online community questionnaires, informational brochures, a public review and comment period for the Draft JLUS, web sign-ups for project updates, a Comments tab on the project website, and email correspondence generated by the public from the Contact Us page on the project website.
Two public meetings and two virtual open houses were conducted at key points throughout the Fort Pickett MTC JLUS. The meetings included a mix of presentations and open house style activities to provide information to attendees and obtain input on the project. A summary of the meetings are described below. The presentations and informational brochures can be viewed under the Resources / Project Documents menu at the top or by clicking here.
The first Public Meeting was conducted in an online virtual format on September 22, 2020, due to COVID. The meeting included an informational presentation on the JLUS process, project current status, a Fort Pickett mission video and maps showing the military footprints for operations throughout the region. A Community Questionnaire was used during the meeting and at the Public Open House to solicit public comment on issues and opportunities experienced in the region. The meeting materials were provided in an interactive virtual Public Open House hosted on the project website through October 7, 2020.
The second Public Meeting was conducted in an online virtual format on December 08, 2020, due to COVID. The meeting included an informational presentation on the JLUS project current status, review of the JLUS process, a discussion on the draft compatibility issues and associated maps to provide a spatial reference for key compatibility concerns. An Issue Importance Questionnaire was used during the meeting to obtain the public input on the relative importance of each issue or concern. The meeting materials were made available to the public via the interactive virtual Public Open House hosted on the project website through December 31, 2020.
The Public Draft JLUS documents and recommendations were made available to the public on the project website for review and comment in April 2021. Information received from the public was reviewed and incorporated in the final JLUS in consultation with the project committees.
